Product Description

The most famous of all the Stiltons from Nottingham, this is a smooth and creamy cheese with a mellow flavour. It has a rich cream colour and blue veining throughout.

Throughout its 103 year history Colston Bassett has been making outstanding cheese and today traditional cheesemaking methods remain in place – including hand-ladling. It is a labour intensive process but one that guarantees the best quality cheese. Colston Bassett Stilton is a rich cream colour with blue veining throughout. The texture of the cheese is smooth and creamy with a mellow flavour and no sharp acidic taste.

Stilton has PDO status and can therefore only be produced according to a strict code in the three counties of Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and Leicestershire. Colston Bassett is one of just six dairies licensed to make Stilton. A consistent winner at Cheese Awards over the years including being announced as Supreme Champion at both the International Cheese Awards and Great Yorkshire Show in 2014. Colston Bassett Stilton also received three stars at the Great Taste Awards 2016, and won Best Stilton Cheese at the Artisan Cheese Awards 2017.

Prep & usage

Stilton can be used in a wide variety of recipes to create traditional classics and cutting edge, contemporary dishes. It has great melting qualities to deliver a rich creamy finish.

Storage

Keep refrigerated. To serve, remove the cheese from the refrigerator a couple of hours before eating, loosen the wrapping and let the cheese warm to room temperature. This improves both texture and flavour. Stilton is suitable for freezing and should be slowly thawed in the refrigerator overnight.
